For this spotlight, we’re proud to feature Nick Damiani, Product Development Engineer and a nearly 15-year member of the Victory team. Since joining the company back when it was still known as Demountable Concepts, Nick has played a major role in developing many of our truck bodies, especially within our glass product line. From designing innovative new products like our Atlas body, to continually improving the way we build, Nick brings a passion for problem-solving and practical engineering to everything he does.

Just to start out: What’s your name and what do you do here at Victory?

Nick: My name is Nicholas Damiani, and I'm an engineer.

How did you get your start here at Victory?

Nick: Fourteen and a half years ago, I saw a job ad on Craigslist, and the rest is history. We were still called Demountable Concepts at the time, and I started off working on demountable lifter designs and part drawings. A few months in, I started engineering glass bodies, which were sort of a side project at the time. That became my main focus, and now we have a variety of glass truck bodies in our product portfolio.

Is there a project or product you’ve worked on that stands out as a favorite?

Nick: I would say, definitely the Transit Atlas body. It was exciting because it was built for a brand new chassis that had just come to market, so instead of modifying an existing design, I had the opportunity to create a body specifically for it from the ground up. The chassis has a lot of unique features and challenges, but in the end, the design turned out really well.

The response from our customer base was exciting too. Before the first one was even fully modeled, it had already sold, and by the time we finished building it, we had multiple orders lined up. It became a big hit at trade shows and continues to be a strong option for the right customers.

What does “Victory” mean to you?

Nick: To me, “Victory” means being a trusted partner to our customers and helping them solve their challenges. We’re not your average body manufacturer because we build custom vehicle solutions that help customers do exactly what they need to do.

“Victory” also means striving to be top-notch at what we do. We’re constantly improving and taking on new challenges, and we’re basically able to do anything we set our mind to.

Alright, it’s time for your elevator pitch. Why should companies choose Victory over anyone else?

Nick: Whatever product we bring to market, we strive to stay ahead of all other competition in terms of technology, build process, and product features, all while being at a value price. Our truck bodies are not extravagant or complicated, but they’re made from premium materials and built to last.

When you’re off the clock, what do you like to do?

Nick: Right now, I’m focusing a lot on home improvement. I like working on the outside of my house, doing yard work, and making my property and house just the way I want it.

Do you have a personal motto or quote that guides you?

Nick: “The best part is no part”, or “The best process is no process.”

Anytime you’re developing something, always try to combine two parts into one, or come up with a way to eliminate a process or part. If it’s not there, you can’t lose it, or you can’t do it wrong. Simplicity is key, and that has much more value than adding a widget in my opinion.

Just for fun, what’s your favorite food, and what’s the story behind it?

Nick: I love a lot of foods, but my favorites are mac and cheese of course, and something I think is called soldiers and eggs. It’s where you make a soft-boiled egg, cut the top off of the shell, and dip strips of toast into the runny yolk. It’s great for breakfast or a snack.
