From Stock Body to Custom Build: A Mobile Repair Rig for G.L. Sayre

We helped G.L. Sayre turn a standard box truck into a mobile repair unit by adding all-around lighting, safety strobes, flexible storage, and a liftgate.

Sometimes the truck you need doesn’t exist...yet. That was the case for G.L. Sayre, a family-owned Peterbilt Truck dealership based in Conshohocken, PA. They were looking to transform a standard box truck into a mobile repair unit.

The objective for this project was clear: to transform this truck into a fully functional mobile workshop. This meant the vehicle needed to be equipped and ready to respond to breakdowns wherever and whenever they occurred. The design had to account for unpredictable locations and hours, ensuring that technicians would have all the tools and resources necessary to tackle repairs on the spot. Flexibility and preparedness were at the heart of the build, making sure the truck could handle a wide range of repair scenarios without delay.

The body was already moving through production when the request came in. But instead of starting over, we shifted gears. We added lighting on all sides so techs wouldn’t be left in the dark, no matter how tight the space. Strobes for safety. E-track and tie-downs for flexibility. A Dhollandia liftgate for heavy equipment. And we did it all without missing the delivery date.

The following photo essay walks you through each feature of the build, capturing how innovation and teamwork turned a standard truck into a versatile mobile repair unit. Explore the gallery below to see the process unfold:
